The idea for FireCAT was born at the Aggies Invent program a month ago. Our team was tasked by the Red Cross Organization with finding a solution to the deadly fires occurring in urban shanty towns, home to nearly a quarter of the world’s population. Each year over two hundred thousand people die worldwide and millions more are injured by these fires. Over the course of a weekend in March, we were able to successfully build a proof of concept for our prototype fire alarm. The device will be able to alert people in these areas to fires so they will be able to escape in time.
